How a Septic Tank Works

Each BIOSeptic concrete septic tank contains three internal chambers that separate and pre-treat wastewater from your kitchen, bathroom, and laundry. As waste enters the tank:

• Solids settle to the bottom

• Fats and oils rise to form a scum layer

• Anaerobic bacteria naturally break down and digest organic matter

• The partially treated liquid passes into a second chamber for further settlement

From there, clarified effluent flows to an evapo-transpiration field, where it safely filters and evaporates into the surrounding soil.

Collection wells provide secure storage for effluent that cannot be disposed of through a traditional evapo-transpiration field. They are ideal for properties where:

• Soil conditions prevent absorption

• Water tables are high

• Disposal areas cannot be installed

• Effluent needs to be transported or pumped elsewhere

How a Collection Well Works

Installed after a septic tank, a collection well holds treated effluent until it can be:

• Removed by vacuum tanker, or

• Pumped to an approved disposal area, trench, or sewer connection
